A Lifetime of Dedication to Family Law

Judge Dawn Throne brings over two decades of experience in family law to the bench. For 24 years, she represented clients in every aspect of family law—including appeals, protective orders against domestic violence, divorce, custody, prenuptial agreements, post-divorce disputes, child support, guardianships, adoptions, and probate. Her expertise is distinguished: she is one of only 43 attorneys in Nevada to be certified as a Family Law Specialist, and uniquely, she is the only sitting Judge in Nevada who holds this distinction.

A Broad Legal Background

Judge Throne’s early career began at two full-service law firms, where she gained experience across multiple areas of law—civil litigation, commercial disputes, bankruptcy, employment law, administrative law, probate, estate and trust litigation, and medical malpractice defense. She also prosecuted and defended misdemeanor criminal cases. For 12 years, she co-owned and managed her own law firm, bringing leadership and business experience alongside her courtroom advocacy.

A Judge Who Understands

Beyond her professional credentials, Judge Throne’s personal journey has given her a unique perspective on the challenges faced by the families who come before her court. She has gone through divorce, experienced a custody battle for her stepson, served as co-guardian for her great-grandmother, and raised teenagers herself. These life experiences bring empathy, understanding, and a deep sense of fairness to her work.

Serving Nevada Families on the Bench

In 2021, Judge Throne was elected to serve as the first Judge in Family Court Division, Department U. Since then, she has presided over thousands of hearings and hundreds of trials.

Since January 2024, she has been one of only two judges in Nevada assigned to hear minor guardianship cases, in addition to a busy civil domestic docket of divorce and custody matters. Judge Throne and her team remain dedicated to efficiently and compassionately managing the heavy caseload entrusted to Department U.

Life Outside the Courtroom

When she is not on the bench, Judge Throne treasures time with her daughter. Together, they share a love for cheering on the Pittsburgh Steelers, attending church, singing in the choir, traveling, and learning new things. Their two rescue dogs add joy and laughter to family life.

Whether in the courtroom or in her community, Judge Throne brings compassion, experience, and dedication to everything she does—always working to ensure Nevada families are treated with fairness, dignity, and respect.
